Maj (retd) Md Quamrul Hasan Azad, a freedom fighter, passed away due to a heart attack at his residence on Airport Road in Lalmonirhat town on Friday afternoon. He was 63. He was the founder of Azad Jute Mills Ltd, Lalmoni Hatchery (fish enclosure), Tista Cold Storage, Begum Quamrunnesa College, in Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila. He also used to give donations to brilliant students and different educational institutes. Azad left behind his wife, a son, two daughters, and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death. He was buried at the district central graveyard in the town on Friday night. State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Md Motahar Hossain, Lalmonirhat District Council Admin-istrator Motiar Rahman, and Deputy Commissioner Habibur Rahman, among others, expressed their deep shock at his death.
