Reformist ex-BNP MP Ebadur 'excluded' from party activity in Moulvibazar

Two factions of Baralekha upazila BNP in Moulvibazar held a meeting together and decided to exclude 'reformist' leader former state minister Ebadur Rahman Chaudhury from party activities in the upazila. At the meeting held at the house of Uapzila BNP president Mohibur Rahman Faruk on Wednesday, leaders of two fractions decided to work together, forgetting differences, meeting sources said. Later talking to newsmen, Faruk said he host the meeting following instruction from BNP secretary Khandoker Delwar Hussain. As per a decision of the meeting, the two factions of BNP will observe the death anniversary of party's founder Ziaur Rahman together today. He added that party leaders at the meeting, in response to a directive from central unit, decided to exclude Ebadur Rahman from party activities in the upazila. Abdul Hafiz, president of another fraction of upazila BNP, said, “We had some differences. But now we are united”. Talking tom this correspondent, some BNP leaders loyal to Ebadur Rahman however claimed the division in the party will widen in Baralekha if he is excluded. Contacted, Ebadur Rahman claimed that most party leaders in the area are loyal to him. The division in Baralekha BNP appeared after Saifur Rahman's son Naser Rahman, Moulvibazar district BNP president, formed a party committee in Baralekha in March 28, 2005 with Muhibur Rahman Faruk and Anwarul Islam as its president and secretary respectively. Later BNP stalwart Abdul Mannan Bhuyan constituted another committee in the uapzila with Abdul Hafiz and Fazlul Haque as president and secretary, which was known to be backed by Ebadur Rahman. Since then, the two committees had been conducting party activities separately. With Wednesday's meeting, supporters of these two committees become united. All of them have expressed their solidarity with Begum Zia appointed BNP Secretary General Khondoker Delwar Hussain.
