Hasina will be freed to lead AL in dialogue, hopes Ashraful
Awami League (AL) chief Sheikh Hasina will be freed and will lead the party in dialogue with government, its acting general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam hopes.
“We want to save the country from further crisis but the caretaker government should take steps as early as possible”, he said while exchanging views at a meeting with journalists at Mymensingh Press Club yesterday.
People want a fair election and relief from spiraling prices. Only prudent decisions can save the situation from being confounded further, he said.
The AL leader also urged the government to stop filing corruption cases against political leaders, claiming that corruption has increased during the tenure of the present government.
Awami League wants a fair election and a congenial atmosphere for democracy to take a firm root in the country, he said.
He also issued a note of warning. “Awami League knows how to launch movement and it always returns home with results”, he said.
AL wants general election in time and handover of power to elected representatives, he also told the meeting.
Criticising the government for arrest of political leaders and activists across the country, he also urged the government to stop it because this will lead the situation from bad to worse.
Replying to a question, he said Sheikh Hasina was brought to Square Hospital not for treatment but for negotiation talks.
Replying to another question, he brushed aside the possibility of formation of a national government is if the dialogue fails.
Among others, AL leaders advocate Wazedul Islam, advocate Abdur Razzaq and Nazim Uddin Ahmed were present at the meeting.
