Try corrupt politicians before polls: Qureshi
Pragatishil Ganatantrik Dal (Progressive Democratic Party -- PDP) Convener Ferdous Ahmed Qureshi yesterday urged the caretaker government to take steps against top corrupt political leaders before the general election.
"Taking action against the corrupt people is very important, otherwise, they will capture top political and economic positions at the national level by using their arms and black money," he said at Divisional Representatives Convention held at Zila Parishad auditorium in Rajshahi.
“People want change and want to see a new Bangladesh. The PDP was born following demand from general people,” he said.
The declaration of emergency on January 11 last year saved the country from violent confrontations, he said, adding that people hate politics of killing and violence activities.
“PDP will work for 12 fundamental rights and the first priority will be on good governance, PBP is now working for unity among general people for next general election.
“Without unity, good governance and independence cannot stay for long.
“Awami League and BNP failed to materialise the dream of Bangabandhu and Shaheed Ziaur Rahman during their tenure as their leaders were busy with their own dreams”
Hailing the ongoing drive against the corruption, the PDP convenor said the people responsible for massive corruption, mismanagement and leasing the country's resources to multinational companies should be punished before the general election.
Politics has to be freed from the clutches of two major political parties and the government should create an atmosphere for multiparty politics in the country, he said.
Winners in the next elections will form the next government, re-establishing democracy in the country, he said.
PDP constitution will be announced in their national convention at Engineering Institution in Dhaka on June 29, PBP leaders said at the convention.
PDP joint convener former lawmaker Nur Muhammad Khan, who was present as special guest at the programme, hailed Bangladesh army for its work for peace.
Advocate Sultanul Islam Moni presided over the convention where PDP central committee member Parvez Kabir, Firoza Begum, advocate Sayed Ali Jinna, advocate Raihanul Islam Raihan, Anwar Hossain, spoke, among others.
Around three thousand leaders and activists from Rajshahi, Natore, Chapainawabgang, Bogra, Joypurhat, Pabna, Sirajgang and Naogaon district took part in the convention.
