UGC to probe irregularities at PSTU
The University Grants Commission (UGC) will investigate the corruption of former vice chancellor (VC) of Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) Prof Dr Abdul Latif who was removed from job on May 21, UGC sources said.
UGC will investigate all appointments and promotions given by Prof Latif during his tenure, they said.
Prof Latif joined PSTU on August 26, 2006. During his 17 months' tenure, he appointed 170 persons including one assistant professor, 34 lecturers, 21 officials and 65 workers at the university.
It was widely alleged that he issued appointment letters on receipt of bribe and avoiding existing rules and regulations.
Several written complaints were lodged against the VC to UGC by various persons.
'We shall send an investigation team to PSTU as soon as possible to investigate the allegations brought against VC Latif', said UGC chairman Prof Nazrul Islam.
