Deposit illegal arms, save me
Arrested UP chairman tells cohorts over loudspeaker in Kaliganj
The people were awed hearing an 'urgent announcement' over loudspeaker by their Union Parishad chairman who was detained on Monday night.
“Urgent news, my men! I have submitted my arms to the joint forces.
Now you can save me and yourselves by submitting your arms as soon as possible,” said Nazrul Islam, chairman of No-2 Union Parishad in Kaliganj upazila, through the loudspeaker of a mosque as he was instructed to do so by the joint forces.
After his arrest on Monday evening, the UP chairman who earlier faced various allegations, made confessions to the joint forces who arrested his cohort Nurul Islam from Dauty village and recovered four bullets of pistol, six bullets of Chinese rifle and 20 cartridges digging the floor of his house.
The law enforcers also arrested Dalil Uddin of Ullapara village under the same upazila and recovered a revolver from bushes near his house.
Chairman Nazrul Islam in his announcement throughout the night asked his loyalists to submit arms to 'avoid danger', police said.
SI Shahidul Islam and SI Fazlur Rahman of Kaliganj Police Station along with their forces are patrolling the areas with hope to recover more arms and bullets.
They have continued the operation following the statement of recently arrested Chhatra Dal leader Tito of Kaliganj upazila, they said, adding that they have removed water of a pond of Nurul Islam with a shallow machine to conduct search for arms there.
“The operation will continue until we achieve our mission. We hope we will be able to find more information about criminals and their arms,” Kaliganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Aslam Khan said.
