Outlaw killed in 'crossfire' in Jhenidah

Regional leader of the outlawed Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP-Janajuddho) Abdus Sattar Malita, 45, was killed in 'crossfire' with police at Dhopabila village under Sadar upazila early yesterday. Police recovered a gun, three bombs and two bullets from the spot. Jhenidah Sadar police station officer-in-charge (OC) Kazi Wased Ali said the Janajuddho leader was arrested at Garaganj bazaar under Shailkupa upazila Monday evening. Acting on his confession, police took him to Dhopabila village in the early hours of yesterday to dig out arms. There, Sattar found a bomb and threw at police. His accomplices opened fire. Sattar was shot dead on the spot. Sub-inspector (SI) Abul Kashem and constable Moktar Ali were also injured during the shootout. The OC said Sattar is an accused in six cases including two for murder and four for bomb explosion.
