Forces deployed at Khalishpur
Amid tension in Khalishpur industrial belt following filing of a case against 300 workers of Platinum Jubilee Jute Mills for vandalising the compound on Monday, a large number of law enforcers including BDR, police and Rapid Action Battalion were deployed in the area yesterday.
Workers of the mill have launched a fresh movement to press home their eight-point demand including payment of arrears and production has remained suspended after vandalism by workers on Monday.
A Kamal Hossain, security officer of the mill, filed the FIR on Monday night for ransacking houses of its project director and some other officials during demonstration at noon that day.
BDR, police and Rab cordoned Platinum jute mills at 2:00pm yesterday as workers made several attempts to bring out procession.
Joint forces held a meeting with leaders of casual workers of seven state-owned jute mills of Khulna-Jessore industrial belt yesterday afternoon.
Contacted, Casual Workers Action committee convenor Md Shamsher Alam said they would not bow down to any pressure or threat as they are determined to realise the demands.
