Sylhet BNP leader sent to jail
A judicial magistrate's court in Sylhet yesterday sent Sylhet city BNP Publicity Secretary Syed Main Uddin Sohel to jail after Kotwali police produced him before the court.
The joint forces arrested Sohel from a house at city's Shahjalal Uposhahar area early yesterday.
Sohel and his close aide district Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal chief Emran Ahmed Chowdhury allegedly led a group of cadres for extortion, land grabbing and other crimes during the BNP-led alliance rule.
After declaration of emergency in January last year, he went on hiding while Emran left the country.
