ACC sues Tangail poura chairman
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against Tangail Pourasabha chairman Jamilur Rahman Miron and wife Jannatul Ferdous Runa for amassing wealth beyond known income and hiding information on wealth.
Tangail district ACC assistant director (AD) Dewan Safiuddin filed the case with Sadar police station on Tuesday.
Another extortion case was filed against Miron, also district joint convener of Kader Siddiqui-led Krishak Sramik Janata League (KSJL) with Sadar police station Monday night.
According to the case, ACC asked Miron to submit wealth statement. On behalf of Miron, his wife Runa submitted the statement of moveable assets amounting to Tk 19,63,500 and immoveable assets amounting to Tk 35,46,018 on May 21.
During appraisal of the statement, it was proved that Miron and wife, in collusion with each other, hided information of wealth of Tk 3,88,300.
Meantime, Rahima Begum, wife of Rafiqul Islam of Patulipara here filed an extortion case against Miron and three others with Sadar police station Monday night.
Rahima alleged that following previous enmity, Miron and his accomplices went to her house on June 28, 2006. They demanded Tk 50,000 as toll and took away Tk 25,000 by breaking open an almirah.
Miron went to jail on surrender to joint forces last year while his wife Jannatul Ferdous remained absconding, police said.
Miron was elected chairman of the century-old Tangail municipality in two municipal elections.
