Most of 137 deserters from Ansar return to underworld
Hunt on to nab them
Security forces are on the hunt for 137 outlaws who quit their jobs in Ansar department without informing their authorities. They were among the 780 outlaws from ten districts of Khulna division to get jobs in Ansar department in 1999 under the then government's Rehabilitation and Employment Scheme after they surrendered to police under a general amnesty.
Sources in intelligence agencies said they have information that most of these 137 outlaws who left jobs in Ansar department returned to he underworld.
Combing operations were launched by security forces in Khulna division last week to nab not only the 137 deserters but also over 2000 others who had surrendered to police with arms in the same year to take advantage of the general amnesty during the then Awami League government.
The then home minister Mohammad Nasim took the initiative to contain outlaws by declaring a general amnesty.
According to records at Khulna Range DIG office, six out of 83 outlaws who surrendered to police in Bagerhat district were provided in the Ansar department.
The rest include, 31 out of 327 in Jessore, 134 out of 478 in Jhenaidah, 11 out of 152 in Magura, 118 out of 480 in Kushtia, 71 out of 269 in Chuadanga and 56 out 136 in Meherpur. They were provided with jobs in Ansar department under the Rehabilitation and Employment Scheme (RES) after they surrendered their arms.
The official records say that none from Bagerhat and Jessore districts escaped from Ansar services. After surrender, none of the 16 outlaws in Satkhira and 76 in Narail was given job under the scheme.
The outlaws had surrendered to police in presence of Nasim in 1999.
Acting DIG of Khulna Range, Asaduzzaman Mian, told this correspondent yesterday that special operations are on in Khulna division to nab the deserter outlaws and this will continue.
“We are watching activities of those who did not join Ansar department and also those who quit their jobs”, he said.
“Of course, we did not get any bad remark so far against them”, he observed.
Meanwhile, the law enforces could not recover any illegal arm in the outlaw-infested district of Khulna division since launching of the drive.
