Officer-in-Charge of Saltha Police Station allegedly tortured a person when he went there to lodge a complaint against abductors of his daughter. In press conference held at Faridpur press club on Wednesday, Aken Matubber, 45, of Bangram under Bhawal union of Saltha upazila, described the story of torture on him by Mainul, the OC, and Habib, an SI of Saltha Police Station in the district. Showing his injured hands and legs to journalists, Aken said Mainul and Habib beat him up with sticks and forced him into putting signature on a white paper before allowing him to leave the police station. On the night of May 5, Bellal Sheikh of the same village along with his three brothers went to Aken's house and demanded that Aken hands over Tk one lakh with his minor daughter Rumi. After a while they snatched away Rumi pointing sharp weapon to them and Bellal's brother Chunnu gave him a paper, Aken said at the press conference. When illiterate Aken showed the paper to the villagers, they told him that the paper was a marriage contact. But her daughter could not be traced in the house of her so-called in-laws' or any of their relatives although Bellal was seen in the area, Aken said. When Aken went to file a complaint with Saltha Police Station on June 2, OC Mainul and SI Habib tortured him for informing the district superintendent of police of the incident before coming the police station, he said. When contacted, OC Mainul said Aken had come to him for filing a 'false' case. He showed indifference when asked about the allegation of torture on Aken.
