Criminals vandalise temple
Criminals broke at least five statues of a Hindu goddess at Devaloy Mandir under Panchhari upazila in Khagrachhari district early yesterday. Police arrested two of the culprits.
Five criminals led by Dayal Barua broke into the temple at 2:00am. They damaged five statues and looted cash Tk 25 thousand and five tola gold ornaments, Panchhari police said.
Sensing the presence of criminals, temple priest Shiv Shangkar Bhattacharya started shouting. Then locals rushed in and caught red-handed one Masudur Rahman Rana. Following his confession police arrested Dayal Barua, 25, from his residence at Panchhari.
Panchhari Zone Commander Lt Col Ibrahim, Assistant Superin-tendent of Police Faizul Hoq, Panchhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mamunur Rashid visited the spot in the morning. Lt Col Ibrahim handed over cash Tk 10 thousand to the temple committee and assured assistance to reinstate the statues.
