'Torture' Of Maid
Case recorded against Sylhet magistrate's wife
Sylhet Kotwali police yesterday recorded the case against the wife of Sylhet chief judicial magistrate for alleged physical torture on a minor housemaid.
A 3-member team from the Ain O Shalish Kendra (ASK), Dhaka reached Sylhet Monday and visited housemaid Ratna, now under treatment at MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital since Thursday night.
The victim narrated to the ASK team how she was allegedly tortured, her family members said.
The ASK team went to Kotwali police station Monday night to file a case against the judicial magistrate's wife, but police declined. However, they recorded the case yesterday.
Ratna along with her elder sister went to the police station Thursday evening and complained that she was often physically tortured by the magistrate's wife Wahida Akhtar Shanta. She also showed police some marks of torture, her family told this correspondent.
An official at Kotwali police station said they sent her to Osmani Medical College Hospital at about 8-30 pm Thursday but did not record any case.
Wahida Akhtar declined to talk about the matter over telephone.
