Names of 18 martyred freedom fighters of Netrakona district have not been included on the plaque in the recently set up martyred freedom fighters' memorial in front of Netrakona Deputy Commissioner's office. According to the list of martyred freedom fighters in Netrakona district 59 freedom fighters of the district became martyr during the Liberation War in 1971 at different battlefields in the country but the plaque of the memorial contains the names of 41 martyred freedom fighters. The 18 freedom fighters who have been left out are -- Abdul Aziz, Abdul Jabbar (Abu Kha), Abu Siddik Ahamed, Lutfur Rahaman Talukder, Abdul Kadir, Nijamuddin, Abdul Gafur, Mohammad Siddikur Rahaman, Sudir Hajong, Nur Ahamed, Mohammad Sukkur Mahmud, Jasim Uddin, Ali Newas, Abdul Jabbar, Abdul Mannan Mia, Mohammad Hafizuddin, Akhil Chandra Sarkar and Islam Uddin. District administration and Ministry of Liberation War Affairs made the list of 41 martyred freedom fighters whose names got place at the plaque of the memorial, Sadar upazila unit command of Muktijoddha Sangsad Ayub Ali told this correspondent. It is very sad that names of 18 other genuine freedom fighters did not get place in the plaque, he said. “We do not want a memorial which fails to contain the list of all the 59 martyred freedom fighters. Several times we urged the authorities concerned to include the names of the left out martyred freedom fighters in the plaque of the memorial but no step has been taken in this regard,” said Freedom fighter Nurul Amin Talukder. Netrakona district unit commander of Muktijoddha Sangsad Haider Jahan Chowdury said only district administration and Ministry of Liberation War Affairs can say how names of 18 martyred freedom fighters were included in the plaque. When contacted, the deputy commissioner said they informed the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs of freedom fighters' demand and necessary steps will be taken after getting decision of the authority.
