Police 'torture' on journo being probed in Netrakona
A judicial inquiry into alleged torture on Netrakona district correspondent of Dainik Jugantar and ETV Yasinur Rahman Ripon began here on Thursday, Netrakona Sadar police station sources said.
Magistrate Shahadad Hossain Bhuiyan is leading the one-member inquiry committee.
Earlier, Meherunnesa Khanom, mother of the injured journalist filed the case accusing 19 persons with Netrakona Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Monday.
The accused are Manjur Kader, officer-in-charge (OC) of Netrakona Sadar police station, sub-inspector (SI) Razaul Karim, SI Harun-or-Rashid, SI Siddiqur Rahman of the same police station, Netrakona town SI Bhuban, Khalilur Rahman Iqbal, Netrakona correspondent of Dainik Samakal, Mizanur Rahman Nannu, Netrakona District Correspondent of Jai Jai Din, Muklesur Rahman, editor of Dainik Jananetra, a local newspaper, Chandan Chakrabartoy, Netrakona district correspondent of Dainik Desh Bangla and Humayan Ahmed, Netrakona district correspondent of Dainik Khabarpatra.
In her complaint, Meherunnesa said Netrakona Sadar police led by its officer-in-charge (OC) Monzur Kader arrested Yasin after filing a false extortion case with the help of the journalists and businessmen.
In reply to a query, Netrakona OC Monjur Kader said Yasin was injured when he was trying to flee. 'Police did not beat him,' he said.
