Bank official gets 34 years' RI

A Jessore court has sentenced a bank official in absentia to 34 years' rigorous imprisonment (RI) for misappropriation of money of the account holders. Salim Uddin, former cash officer of Sonali Bank, (Kaliganj branch- 2) was awarded the punishment by judge Obaidus Sobhan of Jessore Special Tribunal on Wednesday. The court fined him Tk 28 lakh 77 thousand 44, in default, to suffer 10 years more imprisonment. Salim was involved in corruption and irregularities during his tenure from 1999 to 2003. Following allegations lodged by the account holders, Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) here investigated the matter. ACC sub-assistant inspector Mosharraf Hossain filed a case with Kaliganj police station on December 19, 2003. The convict is absconding since filing of the case.
