Thakurgaon AL says in first meet since allowing indoor politics
Thakurgaon district Awami League leaders in their first executive committee meeting since allowing indoor politics demanded immediate implementation of the six-point demand earlier announced by the party's central committee.
At the meeting held at the party office in the town yesterday, they urged the caretaker government to immediately lift the state of emergency and conditions on indoor politics and hold the general election by October.
Demanding stopping of mass arrest of political leaders they urged the government to ensure a favourable situation for holding national election and demanded withdrawal all cases against party chief Sheikh Hasina and other leaders and activists.
The meeting decided to start campaign at the grassroots level as part of preparations for coming national election.
Speakers at the meeting criticised the government for failure to keep the prices of fertiliser within common farmers' capacity.
If the government does not take right decision for the farmers as well as the people, the country would have to face a critical situation as it will have to depend on foreign countries in the food sector, they said.
Former lawmaker and district president of Awami League Babu Ramesh Chandra Shen chaired the meeting held at the party office in the morning.
At least 40 executive committee members of the district committee attended the meeting, said advocate Mostaq Alam Tulu, office secretary of the district committee.
The meeting was addressed by, among others, former lawmaker Dabirul Islam, district AL Secretary Sadek Quraishy and Joint Secretary advocate Tojammel Haque Monju.
