Khulna students float body for agri development
Students of different colleges of Khulna city have floated a new platform styled 'Krishi Biplob.'
We have formed this new platform with a commitment to help the government make Bangladesh self-sufficient in food keeping in view greater interest of the farmers who are backbone of national economy, Rajib Hasan, president of the newly formed platform, said at a press conference at Khulna Press Club yesterday.
“Our objective is to convince the government to take necessary steps to stop leasing out rivers and canals, sale of khas land without consent of farmers. Farmers should be provided with interest-free credit facilities while top priority should be given to development of agriculture,” he said.
He urged introducing a long-term programme to remove menacing problem of waterlogging across the country and dredging of rivers.
“The government must pay more attention to ensuring steady supply of fertilisers at fair prices and encourage import of agricultural equipment. We are on movement to realise these demands just at a time when Bangladesh has not been spared from the impact of food crisis across the world.”
Our newly formed platform is totally non-political by nature. We have decided to stand firmly by the side of the farmers to protect their interest through agriculture movement, said other members of the committee who were present in the press conference.
Tabibar Rahman has been made general secretary of the 16-member committee of Krishi Biplob.
