Charge sheet submission today
Inspector Chitta Ranjan Pal of Detective Branch of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) will submit charge sheet in AL leader advocate Manjurul Imam murder case today to the Court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate.
The veteran Awami League leader and president of Khulna city unit of the party was bombed to death on August 25 in 2003 in front of his residence at Shamsur Rahman road in Khulna.
His assistant Advocate Bijon Bihari and rickshaw driver also died in the same incident.
The chief metropolitan magistrate earlier ordered investigation officer Chitta Ranjan Pal of Detective Branch of KMP to submit supplementary charge sheet of the case on June 15.
Judge Abdus Salam Shikder of Khulna Speedy trial Tribunal sent docket of the case back to CMM court on March 18 this year for further investigation following an appeal made by Special Public Prosecutor advocate Abu Zafar Inspector Chitta Ranjan Pal began further investigation of the case on March 27.
Abdullah Harun Rumi, eldest son of Slain Awami League leader and a prosecution witness of the case, named as planners for the murder five local leaders of the party during deposition in the court on February 25 this year as planners for murder of his father.
They are former whip Mostafa Rashidi Shuja and his younger brother Moazzem Rashidi Doja, former KCC Mayor Kazi Aminul Huq, present general secretary of city Awami League Mizanur Rahman Mizan and ward commissioner Imam Hasan Chowdhury Moina.
When contacted, Mizanur Rahman and Imam Hasan said they did not know anything about the plan to murder the veteran AL leader.
Shuja, Doja and Aminul Huq have been absconding since declaration of state of emergency in January last year.
