Hunt on for 8 'top criminals' of Khulna district
Security forces are on hunt for eight 'top criminals' of Khulna city and the district. The criminals who earlier controlled the underworld, went into hiding following operations conducted by joint forces and Rapid Action Battalion.
The most wanted criminals are Mohammod Hossain Mukta, Wazed Alam, Mushfequr Rahman Hirok and Golam Kader Bappi of the outlawed Janajuddho faction of Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP), Haroon Sheikh and Kamal Sheikh of PBCP M-L faction, Shailendra Nath Biswas and Shamim Akhter of outlawed New Biplobi Communist Party (NBCP).
Hunt for the 'top criminals' is on, said the Khulna Metropolitan Police commissioner and the superintendent of police of Khulna.
According to police, bandit Mohammod Hossain Mukta known as 'Dakat' Mukta joined BNP after being expelled from the Awami League in 2000. He is still holding the post of Khulna City Corporation commissioner elected from Ward No 31.
Shailendra Nath Biswas of Shalua village in Dumuria upazila is wanted in 14 criminal cases including eight for murders.
Shamim Akhter of Araji village in Dumuria upazila is wanted in nine murder cases.
Wazed Alam hailing from West Baniakhamar in Khulna city is wanted in 14 criminal cases including four murders.
Haroon Sheikh of Mahishaguni village in Rupsha upazila is wanted in 16 criminals cases including three murder cases filed with Rupsha PS from 1997 to 2006.
Mohammod Hossain Mukta known as 'Dakat Mukta' is wanted in about thirty criminal cases filed with different police stations of Khulna and Bagerhat districts from 1985 to 2005.
Mukta still maintains an organised gang of pirates in the Sundarbans. Mushfequr Rahman Hirok of Fakirhat upazila in Bagerhat district is a charge-sheeted accused in Jessore Janakantha journalist Shamsur Rahman murder case. He is wanted in 17 criminal cases.
Golam Kader Bappi of Tootpara in Khulna Sadar police station is wanted in 30 criminal cases including three for murder.
Kamal Sheikh of Bagmara village in Rupsha upazila is a wanted criminal in 10 cases including four murder cases.
