Dream of schoolgirl shattered as vested quarters threaten
Dream of a class nine female student seem to be shattered amid harassments and abduction threats by a local gang at Duttpara in Iswarganj upazila in the district.
Toma Roy, 13, daughter of Amal Chandra Roy of Duttpara in Iswarganj upazila, a student of Iswarganj Biseshwari Pilot High School, cannot attend her classes regularly for over two years, family sources said.
Toma became victim of her family's land dispute with their neighbours that started in 2006.
“Advocate Roma Roy, a next door neighbour, who in 2006 grabbed three decimal land that we leased from the government, started harassing us in different ways when we went to recover the grabbed land through legal process,” Amal told this correspondent.
Delinquents working for advocate Roma disturb Toma and threatens openly when we go out, said Toma's mother Champa Roy.
She demanded that authorities ensure their security and smooth running of Toma's education.
“We have filed five GDs [general diaries] with Iswarganj Police Station following the incidents of land grabbing, disturbances and threats. But the situation continues as before,” Amal Roy said.
Neighbours' attempt to settle the matter failed due to alleged non-response by advocate Roma.
Contacted, advocate Roma denied the allegations and said she does not know about disturbance of Toma's education.
Md Hashim Uddin, Headmaster of Iswarganj Biseshwari Pilot High School told this correspondent that Toma is an 'irregular student' of his school and her parents recently informed him about the harassment .
President of Mymensingh Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad and ex-secretary of Mymensingh Bar Association, advocate Bikash Roy told this correspondent that during a recent visit he found primary evidence on Amal's allegations against advocate Roma who created obstacles to measuring the disputed land by local administration.
Ishwarganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Zakir Hossain Mollah said, “I have heard the matter. I will investigate it soon and proper steps will be taken for smooth running of Toma's education.”
