Workers Party leader, ex-UP chairman held in Jhenidah
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested a central leader of Workers' Party (WP) and a former chairman of Ganna Union Parisad (UP) in two separate raids conducted here yesterday and day before, Rab said.
WP leader Robi alias Khokon of Rati Danga village in Shailkupa was arrested from the town on charge of extortion. He was being quizzed till filing of the report yesterday afternoon, they said.
Former Ganna UP chairman Abdul Wahab was also arrested from the town for his alleged involvement in illegal activities of the outlawed Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP). A light gun, two bullets and two bombs were recovered from his possession.
When contacted, Jhenidah Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Kazi Wased Ali said Wahab was arrested after a confessional statement of Akash, younger brother of slain outlaw Dada Tapan. He was also being quizzed under police custody till filing of the report yesterday afternoon.
