Five teachers get 'illegal' promotion, three eligible ones deprived
Five teachers of Maulana Bhasani Degree College in Sirajganj town allegedly got promotion to the post of assistant professor from lecturer through irregular means while three teachers who were eligible for promotion did not get it.
The teacher who got promotion as assistant professor are -- Rikta Rani Sarker, K M Abdur Razzaque, Akmal Hossain, Ulfat Banu and Md Mizanur Rahman.
It is learnt from a letter sent by Benjir Ahmed, Assistant Director of Secondary and Higher Education Department, that due to 'illegal' promotion of the five persons, three other teachers ABM Asaduzzaman Chowdhury, Shabana Parveen and Md Al-Amin Mian were deprived of their due promotion.
KM Abdur Razzaque, Akmal Hossain and Mizanur Rahman are 'Rokon-member' of Sirajganj district Jamaat-e-Islami while the two others are activists of BNP and they got the posts in 2005 through the interference of a then influential minister, who was also president of the college governing body.
The letter from Secondary and Higher Education Department mentioned that ABM Asaduzzaman Chowdhury, Shabana Parveen and Md Al-Amin Mian got MPO a year before the five promotees and so the former three persons are senior to them.
Following an investigation into the irregularities, the concerned department of the education ministry sent a letter to the college principal on January 28 this year recommending correction of the salary scale of the five promoted teachers and giving promotion to the three persons, who are eligible for the post as per rule.
As the college authorities did not take necessary steps in this regard, the concerned department sent letters again on February 25 and March 30 strongly recommending immediate correction of the pay scale of the five persons, but no step effect so far.
Several college teachers seeking anonymity held dilly-dallying of the present acting principal responsible for it.
When contacted, Nabin Chandra Karmakar, acting principal of the college, said the irregularities occurred during the previous BNP-led government, when another person was principal.
Necessary steps will be taken in this regard within a short time when the college governing body meet, he said.
