'Formulate tough law to punish drug traders'
Tobacco, Drug and HIV/AIDS Prevention Forum in Rajshahi yesterday urged the government to immediately formulate tough law for punishment of drug traders and smugglers.
At a press conference at ASUS office, the forum leaders recommended that the government form task forces comprising representatives from district, upazila and union levels, local body governments and NGOs to launch drive against drug traders, smugglers and users.
They also demanded inclusion of lessons on bad effects of tobacco, drug, HIV/AIDS in school and college textbooks.
They urged the government to advertise in the media against tobacco and drug.
The forum announced seven-day prevention programme against drug, tobacco and HIV/AIDS in Rajshahi.
The programme includes advocacy meeting with school and college students, awareness programme in border areas, counselling and treatment service for tobacco and drug users, awareness programme with local people and employers of transport association and advocacy meeting with university students.
Forum President Dilara Rahman read out a written statement during the press conference while General Secretary Muhammad Amanullah and Treasurer Debashis Pramanik Debu, addressed, among others.
