WP leader Bablu sent to jail on surrender
Tala upazila Workers Party (WP) general secretary and Khalilnagar Union Parisad (UP) chairman Pranab Ghosh Bablu was sent to jail on surrender before a court here yesterday, court sources said.
As an accused in the upazila BNP president A B M Altaf Hossain murder case, he was absconding for a long time. During surrender, he appealed for bail but the court rejected his prayer and sent him to jail, they said.
District and Sessions Judge's Court here fixed July 2 as the date of hearing.
Former BNP lawmaker and Satkhira district BNP president Habibul Islam Habib, another accused in the case, is also absconding, court sources said.
BNP leader Altaf was killed in bomb attack at Patkelghata bazar in Tala on May 4, 2004. Another BNP activist Habibur Rahman was also killed in the attack.
Investigation officer (IO) assistant superintendent of police (ASP) of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Sukha Ranjan Samaddar submitted two charge sheets with the chief judicial magistrate's court here after four years of incident on January 13 against 14 people including Bablu.
Prakash is now in jail while Mostafa, Hafizul, Raju, Shib Pada, Ahmed, Ashraful, Shahidul, Tushar, Prakash, Badruzzaman, Montu, Abu Hena and Debendra were released on bail, police said.
