District administration starts removing illegal structures in Khagrachhari
The district administration, in an eviction drive conducted here yesterday, demolished illegally-built houses, business establishments and other structures from the bank of Bangabridge canal here.
The drive jointly led by Sadar upazila assistant commissioner (AC) of land Mohammad Kowsar Hossain and executive magistrate Nurul Alam lasted for five hours cleaning the illegal structures built on about 5 kilometre area in the neighbourhood.
The structures were allegedly built defying official rules during the BNP led 4-party alliance rule.
While contacted, the AC (land) said at least 20 cases were filed against the grabbers. The drive to recover 'chhara', canal and rivers will continue to ensure smooth flow of water in the water bodies so that the hill town can be protected from flash flood, he said.
