3 AL leaders collect nomination paper for mayoral election in Khulna city
Three Awami League (AL) leaders collected nomination papers yesterday for contesting the mayoral election scheduled to be held here on August 4.
City AL president and former state minister Talukder Abdul Khaleque, general secretary (GS) Alhaj Mizanur Rahman Mizan and party's Ward-20 unit joint secretary Mallick Abid Hossain collected nomination papers separately from the deputy election commissioner's office.
Earlier, city AL executive committee unanimously nominated Talukder Abdul Khaleque at a meeting held at the party office here on Sunday to contest in the election. City AL GS Mizanur Rahman proposed his name while district AL president seconded the proposal.
Meanwhile, Acting Khulna Mayor Moniruzzaman Moni, also senior vice president of city BNP, also collected nomination paper to vie for the post.
When asked, Moni said he will not wait for the party's decision regarding participation in mayoral election. 'I believe BNP will take a decision to participate in the fray,' he said.
