Police official, two lawyers sued for extortion, cheating

A police official, two lawyers and eight others were sued on charge of extortion and a cheating yesterday. They are Kalaroa Police Station sub-inspector (SI) Farid, Notary Public Advocate Azharul Islam, Advocate Syed Ziaur Rahman of Satkhira Judge court, Uma Rani Ghosh, wife of Shankar Ghosh of Bamankhali village, Prabhas Kumar Ghosh of Kalaroa, Dipankar Kumar Ghosh, Ajit Kumar Ghosh, Uttam Kumar Ghosh, Goutam Kumar Ghosh, Madhu Ghosh and Arabinda Kumar Ghosh of Kotalipara in Gopalganj district. They were sued by Shushanto Kumar Ghosh of Bamankhali village in Kalaroa for allegedly demanding Tk 2,00,000 from him. He further alleged the accused cheated him by forcing him to marry Uma Rani Ghosh, wife of his elder brother Shankar Kumar Ghosh reluctantly by making a false affidavit on June 23. He also alleged that his elder brother was beaten by them to agree to their proposal. The Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court asked the Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate into the matter, court sources said. On contact, both the lawyers denied the allegations saying the plaintiff and his elder brother made the affidavit willingly.
