Man to die for killing wife in Satkhira
Satkhira Women and Children Repression Prevention Court has sentenced a man to death for killing his wife for dowry, court sources said.
The convict is Rezaul Islam Gazi of Bhomra village in Sadar upazila.
Rezaul married to Bilkis Nahar, daughter of Rustam Ali of Puratan Satkhira in Sadar upazila in 2001. Soon after marriage, he demanded dowry from his father-in-law through his wife. But the victim's father failed to pay him dowry. As a result, Bilkis fell in disgrace of her husband. He started torturing her off and on, court sources said.
The convict tortured his wife to death on the spot at night on January 1, 2002. Police pressed charge against him.
The court pronounced the verdict after examining witnesses and relevant documents.
