Ishwardi mayor sued for extortion
An extortion case has been filed against detained mayor of Ishwardi municipality and three others in Pabna Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court.
Nuruddin Safi, executive director of NGO Nijpoth, filed the case on Monday.
The accused are Ishwardi municipality mayor Md Mokhlesur Rahman Bablu, also joint secretary of Pabna district unit BNP, Ishwardi municipality Panel Mayor Md Samsul Islam, Ishwardi municipality Secretary Md Rejaul Karim and Slum Development Officer Najma Akter.
NGO Nijpoth worked in slum development project in Ishwardi municipality area following an agreement with the municipality and submitted a bill of Tk 12 lakh 85 thousand 467 for the work, goes the case statement.
But the accused persons demanded Tk 50 thousand from the complainant for sanctioning the submitted bill, it added.
The complainant also said that the accused persons asked him to pay toll regularly to Ishardi municipality mayor if the NGO authorities want to work in Ishwardi. The court asked Ishwardi Police Station to take step.
Joint forces arrested Mokhlesur Rahman Bablu in April last year.
