Licence of 31 rice mills cancelled in C'nawabganj

The Food Department cancelled licence of 31 rice mills in the district for their failure to supply rice and paddy to government godowns during the ongoing food procurement drive. The order was sent to the concerned millers after its issuance on July 1 from the district food controller's office, officials said. Of the mills, 15 are in Sadar upazila, eight in Nachole upazila, seven in Gomostapur upazila and one in Bholahat upazila. When contacted, Chapai-nawabgonj district controller of food Md Anisuzzaman confirmed the incident. Rice Mills Owners' Association president Md Mozammel Haque said the administration took a decision to snap power connection to the defaulting rice mills. The official rate of rice procurement in the district is Tk 28 per kg and that of paddy is Tk 18 in the current IRRI-Boro season.
