Water logging
Water logging is a common sight in Dhaka city in the rainy season. And no effective and sustainable measures are ever adopted to prevent it. The situation has become critical. Dhaka is surrounded by various rivers but there is no way to discharge water through the drainage system into the rivers.
Another major problem is the unplanned and unauthorised growth of the city. Some areas of Dhaka are low-lying. The areas that were selected as Dhaka city in the great plan of 1961 are not maintained and it expanded without proper planning with a large area of industrial zone. Forty per cent area of Dhaka city is flooded after normal rainfall, and it goes up to 65-80% after heavy rain.
The whole issue has to be handled efficiently to prevent the situation from worsening further.
