Skeleton exhumed after 2 years for DNA test
Skeleton of a man killed two years ago was exhumed yesterday for DNA test and probe into the alleged murder.
Police exhumed the skeleton of Sona Mondol 38 of Gourdah village in Mirpur upazila in presence of Magistrate Sajedul Islam.
According to police, strangled body of Sona Mondol was recovered from the rail track at Shimultala in the upazila on March 29, 2006.
On the following day, Marjul, Khejur Ali and Abdus Sattar, member of Chatian Union Parishad (UP), filed a general diary with Mirpur police station terming it a suicide by 'mentally retarded' Sona Mondol.
Two days later, Chalak Ali, son-in-law of Sona Mondol, filed a murder case against five persons. They were Marjul, UP member Abdus Sattar his son Milon Ali, Abul Hossain and Asia Khatun.
In his case, Chalak claimed that Marjul and his men killed Sona as he came to know an extra marital affair between Marjul and Asia Khatun. Asia was wife of Kader Joarder of the village.
Sona's family sources earlier claimed that Marjul and Milon called him (Sona) out of his house on the night of March 28, 2006. He was missing since the., they had said.
They also claimed that Sona was strangled and the body was left on the rail track at Shimultala.
Police had also submitted charge sheet of the case dropped the names of all accused and terming it a 'unnatural death'. Later court discarded the case.
On April 28 this year, Chalak Ali appealed to a judicial magistrate court for further investigation. He claimed that Marjul had diverted the case by influencing police as he was a local BNP leader.
The court ordered police exhume the body for further investigation.
Contacted, officer-in-charge of Mirpur police station said the skeleton will be sent for DNA test for further probe.
