Leased Khulna jute mill re-opens today

Staff Correspondent, Khulna
Preparations are complete for starting operation of leased Peoples Jute Mills today as a private firm has taken over its management for five years with plan to increase its production by introducing three shifts a day. As per the agreement, the lessee, Kazi Firms Ltd, will give the government a 'lease fee' while a share of the profit will go to the government if the jute mill can become a profit earning enterprise. The firm has taken lease bearing all liabilities during lease period, sources of Khulna Zonal BJMC office said. As the authorities shut down the government-owned jute mill on August 1 last year on ground of severe financial crisis, about 5,000 workers and employees, both permanent and temporary, lost their jobs.
