Students boycott class as outlaws threaten to kill teacher
Students of Ranjitpur High School in Sadar upazila of the district have started boycotting classes for an indefinite period in protest against outlaws' death threat to one of their teachers.
Several days ago, a gang led by outlawed Gono Mukti Fouz (GMF) cadre Asa went to Durbachara house of the teacher named Ismail and demanded Tk 3 lakh toll within 15 days, sources said.
The outlaws threatened to kill the teacher if he fails to pay them the amount.
As the panicked teacher stopped attending the school, the students approached other teachers, who expressed their utter helplessness in this regard.
Consequently, the students on Saturday stopped attending classes and said the 'class boycott' will continue for an indefinite period.
School Headmaster Nasir Uddin admitted the fact.
On Sunday, the school managing committee held a meeting where people of the area attended.
“The students demanded security for their teachers and we have assured it. Police is looking for criminal Asa,” said Islamic University Police Station officer-in-charge who along with a police team was present at the meeting.
Outlawed GMF cadres led by Bablu shot dead Rafiqul Islam, a teacher of the same school, in front of hundreds of students as he failed to give them Tk 2 lakh toll in 2005, school sources said.
Bablu was killed in 'crossfire' with police in September last year.
