A peaceful country

The news that Bangladesh is a peaceful country dispelling the notions /opinions of many countries came as a pleasant surprise. Truth has its own way to dispel the wrong notions. Bangladesh ranks first as the most peaceful nation in South Asia in 2008, according to the global peace index survey conducted by an independent think tank. The reports put our country in a respectful position, which it rightfully deserves. Our foreign adviser, expressing his satisfaction, said, “This proves what we have been saying for some time. Today, Bangladesh is the oasis of calm in an otherwise turbulent region.” We are at peace with all our neighbours. Bangladesh's role in the international fields has been appreciated by all nations and the UN. Countries holding a wrong notion about Bangladesh should realise that the truth cannot be suppressed or buried. Our ranking among the 140 countries is 86th, ahead of the USA, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka & Russia. I believe this distinction should not make us complacent because we will have to move further ahead with discipline, dedication, commitment and friendly attitude for a better future. We want to live in peace and also expect cooperation from the world community to achieve our modest goal.
