'Give equal seats to female candidates'
Female candidates contesting for councillorship in Barisal City Corporation yesterday said women should be given equal seats like their male counterparts in city corporation election.
Despite increase in female voters' participation and the number of candidates in local government elections, there is not corresponding improvement in female representatives participation in decision-making and development works, speakers said at a daylong dialogue.
Sufia Kamal Leadership Fellows organized the 'Citizens' dialogue' in cooperation with Barisal NGO Development Network and Steps Towards Development at Shahid Abdur Rob Serniabat Auditorium of Barisal District Bar Association.
Around 200 people including 45 female councillorship candidates participated at the dialogue with Fazilatunnesa Farid, a Sufia Kamal Leadership fellow, in the chair.
