Cheated teenager burns herself

A teen-aged girl yesterday committed suicide by burning herself after her lover decided to marry another girl. The victim, Sharmin Sultana Rini, 18, poured kerosene on her body and set fire to it in front the Kalroa residence of her lover Abdul Wadood, a Brac staff working at Kalaroa branch of the NGO, at about 8:30am. Locals rescued her in a critical condition but she succumbed to her burn injuries on the way to Satkhira Sadar Hospital at about 9:00am, sources said. Rini, daughter of Samsul Huda of village Ghughudia in Dumuria upazila in Khulna, had been residing with her mother and two brothers at her maternal grandfather's house at Rasulpur in the town since her father left her mother Jesmin Akhtar with three children 10 years ago. Rini passed the SSC examinations with GPA-4 from Satkhira Government Technical School and College in 2007 and got herself admitted to Satkhira Polytechnic Institute in computer science the same year. At that time she became acquainted with Abdul Wadood, a Brac staff working at Kalaroa branch of the NGO, and eventually a love affair developed between them. Frustrated over her lover's decision to marry another girl, Rini took the decision to take her own life. “My daughter took her life after being deceived by Wadood,” said Jesmin Akhtar. Contacted, Kalaroa Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nur Islam they are trying to nab Abdul Wadood who went into hiding soon after the incident.
