13 acquitted in Barisal
Ziaur Rahman Zia, chief of Al Ikram Islami Social Welfare Society, an NGO, and 12 others were acquitted of charge in a verdict pronounced by a speedy trial tribunal yesterday in another case of serial blasts here on August 17, 2005.
Twelve others who were acquitted of charge are Golam Morshed Chowdhury Reza, a chemistry honors student, Jalal Arefin, a SSC student, Hafez Saiful Islam, Abu Yusuf Majumder, Abu Solaiman Sujan, a blind HSC student, and officials and staff of Al Ikram Islamic Social Welfare Society, Md Maruf, Jasimuddin, Abdus Sobhan, Giasuddin, Sarwar and Abdur Rahim Zahid Babu.
Barisal Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Rabiul Hasan delivered the verdict.
Nine accused were present during pronouncement of the verdict while four others were absconding.
Earlier, the tribunal acquitted all of them in two out of 12 cases filed in this connection.
None was released from jail nor granted bail as nine more cases are pending.
