Female UP chairman among 5 jailed for stealing FWP rice
Barisal District and Sessions Judge Court yesterday sentenced five representatives of local government bodies including a female chairman to 14 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) for misappropriating 54 bags of rice meant for Food for Work Project (FWP).
The convicts are Zalla Union Parishad (UP) chairman Urmila Baroi, member Jharna Roy, now abosconding, member Prodip Chandro Roy, member Humayun Howlader and Sobahan Rari, member of Bamrail UP in Uzirpur upazila.
Each of them was fined Tk 50,000, in default, to suffer one year more imprisonment.

Sub-inspector Parimol Chandra lodged a case with Uzirpur Police Station. Uzirpur officer-in-charge Shahizan Ali investigated the case and submitted charge sheet against the five on May 31, 2007.
