ACC chief says in Thakurgaon
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Hasan Mashhud Chowdhury yesterday called upon government officials to resist corruption and help the government root out the vice from society.
He sought cooperation from all levels in freeing the administration from the menace.
The caretaker government is trying very sincerely to remove corruption, which is eating up all development programmes, the ACC chairman said.
“Do your children know whether the money you spend for them is legal or illegal?.
“If they know it is legal, they (your children) grow up with strong moral values and better human beings”, he said at a view-exchange meeting titled 'Taking institutional initiative to prevent corruption'. It was held at Thakurgaon Shilpakala Academy auditorium.
The ACC chief said top officials in the administration have to take the lead in removing corruption and ensure transparency at all levels.
“It is illogical that poor salary is behind corruption. Many employees live honestly with low income”, he said.
“Rooting out corruption from society is not easy but we have to try to scale it down to a tolerable level”.
ACC chairman said it is true that corruption is rampant also at district and upazila levels. Village people are to bribe officials for petty works.
Thakurgaon Deputy Commissioner Miah Abdullah Mamun and Acting Police Superintendent AKM Iqbal, among others, were present at the meeting.
District Primary Education Officer Nazir Ahmed, Deputy Director of Agriculture Extension Department Mohoshin Ali, Managing Director of Thakurgaon Sugar Mill MA Sttar and Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital Dr. Sultan Alam also spoke on the occasion.
Earlier in the morning the ACC chairman talked to reporters of electronic and print media at Thakurgaon Circuit House.
