Warrant to arrest ex-Jamaat MP Khaleque, four others

A court in Satkhira yesterday issued an arrest warrant against all the five charge-sheeted accused including former Jamaat lawmaker Maulana Abdul Khaleque Mondal as they remained absent before the court yesterday fixed for hearing in the sensational China Khatun murder case. Judge Motazidur Rahman of the District Women and Children Repression Prevention court passed the order and fixed August 4 for next hearing of the case. The other accused who were issued warrant of arrest are China Khatun's husband Azad Hossain, her father-in-law Abdul Aziz, brother-in-law Rafiqul Islam and neighbour Nazrul Islam of village Machhkhola in Sadar upazila. China Khatun, 19, daughter of Ahmad Ali of village Nagarghata in Tala upazila, was married with Azad Hossain, son of Abdul Aziz of village Machhkhola in Sadar upazila 2001, court sources said. Ten days after the incident, the victim's mother-in-law Mariam Begum submitted an allegation with the same police station against Nazrul Islam, son of the victim's husband's sister, with a recommendation of former Jamaat lawmaker Maulana Abdul Khaleque Mondal who asked the Sadar Police Station authorities to take action against the accused. The then officer in charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station Ruhul Islam Mallik filed a murder case accusing Nazrul Islam. It is clear to the court that the complainant Mariam Begum filed the case as per advice by the former Jamaat lawmaker and the former lawmaker, complainant Mriam Begum, the victim's father-in-law Abdul Aziz and husband Azad tried to conceal the facts in a pre-planned way, the judge observed in his order. The second investigation officer of the case, Assistant Superintendent of Police Sukharanjan Samaddar of the Criminal Investigation Department submitted the charge sheet against the five persons including Khaleque Mondal before Satkhira Women and Children Repression Prevention court on June 10.
