Send dumb woman to safe home
HC order on Khagrachhari DC
The High Court division bench issued Suo Moto rule upon the deputy commissioner, superintendent of police, chief judicial magistrate and jailor of Khagrachhari, asking them why the detention of the dumb women in safe custody, should not be declared illegal and without lawful authority. The HC Division Bench comprising Justice Md Mozammel Hossain and Justice AB Mahmudul Huq also directed Khagrachhari Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Shahdat Hossen to take necessary steps for sending the aforesaid dumb women to social welfare ministry's safe home for women and children at Farhadabad in Chittagong and take adequate steps for finding out her parents or legal guardians within two weeks. The HC passed the order on July 16 following an appeal by advocate Seema Zahur of Bangladesh National Women Lawyers Association. The lawyer submitted the appeal to the High Court Division on July 13. Earlier on July 12, The Daily Star ran a news item headlined 'Dumb women in safe custody for a year'. Admitting getting the HC order, Additional District Magistrate Monindra Kishore Majumder and Chief Judicial Magistrate Abul Bashar Munshi said they will sent the dumb women to the directed place as early as possible.
