Outlaws demand toll from banks in Swarupkathi
Tolls have been demanded in the names of ultra left parties from four branch mangers of four public and schedule banks of Swarupkathi upazila town under Pirojpur district.
Related regional offices and branch mangers of banks and police sources said general diaries have been lodged by the bank authorities with Swarupkati Police Station after receiving the threats demanding immediate payments of demanded tolls.
Md Fariduddin Shahin, Md Shahjahan Howladar, Sujit Kumar Roy and Md Safizuddin, local branch managers of Sonali, Rupali, Krishi and Pubali banks respectively, lodged those general diaries (GD).
They alleged that one Mamun identifying himself as a regional leader of Purbo Banglar Communist Party over telephone demand Tk 50 thousand per branch as tolls with life threats in default.
Officer in charge of Swarupkati police station, Shah Md. Azad said that police is investigating the matter through tracing the phone calls.
They have also strengthened security arrangements of the bank branches and residences of the bank officials, he said.
