Magura clinic owner held as newborn baby dies after surgery by him
The SSC-passed man said he earlier conducted such operations
Police yesterday arrested the owner of Magura Surgical Clinic as a newborn baby with 'imperforated anus' (absence of anal passage) died allegedly after the owner, with educational qualification of SSC, operated upon the child on Sunday.
Basanti Rani, 25, wife of Gosai Kumar Biswas of village Sagda-Laxmipur in Magura Sadar upazila, gave birth to a male child by caesarian operation at Magura Surgical Clinic on Friday night, police and family sources said.
As the baby did not have any anal canal, Goasai Kumar took the child to Magura Sadar Hospital the next morning. On-duty doctor at the hospital referred the baby to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
But when Gosai Kumar returned to the clinic, Jamir told him that the child's operation would be done at his clinic and it would cost Tk six thousand only.
Accordingly Jamir operated the child on Sunday noon. Shortly afterwards, the child's condition deteriorated and Gosai again took the baby to Magura Sadar Hospital where it died at around 10:30pm, sources said.

Talking to this correspondent at Magura Sadar Police Station, clinic owner Jamir Hossain admitted that he himself operated upon the baby.
When asked about his qualification to conduct the operation, he said he had operated upon such type of patients earlier on several occasions at his clinic and the case was an accident, he said.
Following the incident, Magura Civil Surgeon's (CS) Office issued a written order to the clinic authorities to immediately close the clinic, officials said.
The CS office also formed a three-member committee headed by Shafiur Rahman, surgery consultant of Magura Sadar Hospital, for proper investigation into the matter.
“After primary investigation, we have already ordered closure of the clinic and stern action will be taken against the clinic authorities after thorough probe into the incident,” acting CS Dr Kazi Rezaul Huq told The Daily Star.
