Satkhira college students vow to make society drug-free

Over 400 teachers and students of Satkhira Government College formed a human chain and held an anti-drug meeting yesterday with a vow to rid society of the menace of drug abuse once for all. Mukta Angan, a newly formed anti-drug committee comprising students, arranged the programmes on the college campus to create awareness among the young generation regarding bad effects of drug. Later they held a discussion at the college auditorium with the organization's adviser vice-principal Prof Abdul Hamid in the chair. Stern action will be taken if any member of the law enforcement agency is found to help or shelter drug peddlers, said Satkhira Superintendent of Police Mirza Abdullahel Baki, who was the chief guest at the function. He urged the people to help identify and nab corrupt policemen. Addressing the students as the future leaders of the country, he urged them to play more active role to free the society from drug abuse. Expressing concern over increasing trend of drug addiction especially among the youths in the area, speakers at the discussion demanded arrest of the drug peddlers in the area to put an end to the harmful menace.
