Man to die for killing minor son
Barisal District and Sessions Judge Court yesterday awarded death sentence to a man for killing his only son.
The convict is Jasimuddin Rari, 32.
Prosecution story, in brief, is that Jasim went to his father-in-law's house at Kolchar-Shayamra village in Mehendiganj upazila to see his wife Fatema Begum and four-year-old son Shahin on March 31, 2007. There ensued an altercation with his mother-in-law over dowry. Being infuriated, he took away his son without informing his wife. When his wife realised that Shahin went missing, she created pressure on Jasim to tell whereabouts of the minor child.
Jasim confessed to killing his son and he was handed over to police. Later, police recovered the body. Shahin's mother lodged a murder case with Mehendiganj police on April 02.
Jasim gave a confessional statement to a magistrate under section 164 taking sole responsibility of the murder.
Sub-Inspector Abul Hossain, also investigation officer of the case, framed charge against the killer on July 23.
