Councillor candidate among 6 sued

Police has filed a case against six people including a candidate for councillorship in Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) polls Bazlur Rahman Babul on charge of violating election rules. Sub-inspector Abdul Awal of Kotwali Police Station filed it on Sunday night. Police sent four of the accused -- Ashraful, Harun Miah, Baki Ahmed and Zamal Ahmed to jail while another accused Rajon is undergoing treatment at Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital. A procession was brought out in support of Babul, candidate for councillorship in ward No 4 on Friday night. Rajon sustained stab injuries during the clash that took place at the time of money distribution following the procession, police said. Police caught the four people from the spot and sent Rajon to hospital. The four people were sent to jail through the court following day. In line with the statement of the arrestees, Bazlur Rahman had been made an accused in the case, police said.
