3 to die for murder in Dinajpur
A court in Dinajpur yesterday awarded death sentence to three people in the case for killing a woman after gang rape.
The convicts are Bidhan Chandra Roy, 33, Tushar Babu, 33, and Monichandra Roy, 34, -- all from village Durgapur under Chirirbandar upazila of Dinajpur.
Md Badsha Alamgir, Judge of Woman and Children Repression Prevention Court handed down the verdict in the crowded courtroom in presence of convicts.
Criminals suffocated Mahazabin Chowdhury Giti, 40, after gang rape at her Munshipara residence in Dinajpur town on September 8 in 2007, goes the prosecution.
The next day, Giti's mother Razia Chowdhury filed a murder case with Dinajpur Police Station accusing the three people.
Investigation officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Shoresh submitted charge sheet against the three persons and the court delivered the verdict after examining the documents and witnesses.
Claiming themselves innocent, the convicts said they will appeal to the higher court.
